Create and use shopping lists

Combine recipe ingredients, organize a store route, add manual items, and track what is handled.

Shopping lists turn ingredients from several recipes into one practical list. You can adjust each recipe's servings before adding it, include ordinary household items, and keep completed lists for later reference.

Build a list

Open Shopping, select New shopping list, and enter a useful name. Pressing Enter in the name field moves to recipe search; it does not create the list.

Search your library and select a recipe result to add it. The selected recipe appears below the results with its own Servings field. Repeat the search-and-select step for every recipe needed for the trip, then select Create shopping list.

Each selected recipe has its own Servings field. Viandly scales that recipe's ingredient amounts before placing them in the shopping list. This does not change the saved recipe.

Use Add anything else for groceries or supplies that do not come from a recipe. Enter one item per line. Manual items remain exactly as written.

Add one recipe from its detail page

Open a recipe and select Add to list. You can add its ingredients to an existing active list or create a new list. If the recipe detail page is currently scaled, the dialog starts with that serving count.

Understand combined ingredients

Viandly combines conservative exact matches for display when the ingredient name, unit, preparation, and note agree. It does not combine ambiguous quantities or merely similar ingredients. The source recipe names remain visible under a combined item.

Recipe ingredients are copied into the list as a snapshot. Editing or deleting a recipe later does not silently change a shopping trip already in progress.

Mark an item handled

The check control means handled, not strictly purchased. Use it when an item is in the cart or when you discover that it is already in your pantry.

Handled items move into their own section and can be restored individually. Clear handled removes all handled rows when you no longer need their history.

Use the pencil beside an item to change its shopping-list wording, amount, size, or preferred brand. The edit changes only that shopping list. It does not modify the ingredient in the source recipe. When Viandly has combined a matching ingredient from several recipes, editing the visible row keeps all of those recipe sources attached to the customized shopping entry.

Organize a trip by store

On the main Shopping page, select Manage stores and add the stores you commonly visit. Put them in the order you normally drive the route. This order becomes the default for every shopping list, and you can rename or remove a store there at any time.

Open a shopping list and use the Store selector beside an item to assign it. Items assigned to the same store immediately appear together in a store section. Items without a store remain in Not assigned so they cannot disappear from the trip. When Viandly combines matching ingredient rows from several recipes, changing the store moves the whole combined entry.

Use the up and down controls on a store section to change the route for that shopping list only. This is useful when one trip starts from a different location or when an item must be tried at a second store. Select Use default store order to discard the list-specific route and return to your account default.

Changing an item's store does not mark it handled. If the first store is out of stock, select the next store and the item moves there while remaining on the needed list.

Maintain saved lists

Open a list to change its name, add more recipes, add manual items, or remove a source recipe. Edit the name directly in the page heading. A circled up-arrow appears while the name is being saved and briefly becomes a check when saving finishes.

Use Archive list to move a finished list out of the active area without deleting it. Archived lists appear in a separate section; open one and select Restore list to make it active again.

Select Delete, then confirm Delete shopping list, when you no longer need it. Deleting a shopping list does not delete any recipes.
