Importing Recipes
Review and improve an import draft
Compare structured fields with their source, resolve quality findings, and save safely.
An import draft is private work in progress. It does not become a recipe until you save it as one.
Review the important fields
- Check the title, description, servings, preparation time, and cooking time.
- Confirm source attribution and the original URL when one exists.
- Compare ingredient sections, amounts, units, preparation, and notes with Source Text or Original Scan.
- Confirm instruction sections and reading order.
- Read Recipe Quality findings and source excerpts.
- Select Save draft progress if you want to return later, or Save as private recipe when it is usable.
The quality score is a review aid, not a guarantee. A lower score can identify optional omissions, while a high score cannot prove that OCR interpreted every number correctly.
Source Text and Original Scan are read-only references. Correct the structured draft directly, or use Improve draft with AI when the source needs broad reinterpretation. Ordinary copy and paste remains available for an exceptional field-level correction.
Compare library matches
Possible duplicate recipe is a strong warning based on matching titles plus matching source or structured recipe content. Compare the saved recipe before deciding whether to discard the draft or save a duplicate intentionally. A shared magazine, cookbook, or publisher website does not by itself make two recipes duplicates.
Similar recipes in your library is informational. Viandly found meaningful title terms or ingredients in common, but it is not claiming the recipes are duplicates. Open a suggestion when you want to compare related versions, techniques, or dishes; otherwise continue reviewing normally.
Improve with AI
When your account has an AI provider, select Improve draft with AI. Viandly sends the retained source, current structured draft, and quality findings to your configured provider. The result is a proposal: compare the changes and select Accept AI changes before they update the draft form.
AI can normalize units, repair likely OCR defects, identify sections, estimate missing yield or timing, and surface recipe inconsistencies. You remain responsible for reviewing food-safety and measurement details.
