Importing Recipes
Choose an import method
Select the source path that preserves the cleanest recipe text with the least work.
Use the cleanest source available. Better source text gives both deterministic parsing and AI structuring less ambiguity to resolve.
Recommended order
- Website using the normal recipe-page URL. Many sites place clean structured recipe data behind the visible article, and Viandly checks for it automatically.
- Documents for a PDF, Word, OpenDocument, or plain-text file.
- Paste Text when you can select the recipe in a browser, print view, email, or document.
- Photos for paper pages and images that contain no selectable text.
- Scanner for files delivered through your private scanner intake address.

When a website blocks import
Try the normal recipe-page URL before using its print view. A long visible article may still contain clean structured recipe data that produces a better import than printed or copied text.
If the normal page is blocked or produces an unusable result, open the recipe yourself. Save the site's print view as a PDF and use Documents, or select the recipe text and use Paste Text.
AI-assisted and manual structuring
When an AI provider is configured, Viandly can queue source text for AI-assisted structuring. Without one, Viandly creates a deterministic draft that you can finish manually. In both cases, review the draft before saving a recipe.
