Start with the normal recipe page

Use the URL of the page where you normally read the recipe. Do this before opening the site's print view or creating a PDF.

Many recipe pages include hidden structured recipe data for search engines and other software. This data is often much cleaner than the visible page: it can identify the title, author, description, times, servings, ingredient sections, and instructions without including the surrounding article, advertising, navigation, or comments. Viandly checks for this data automatically. You do not need to find it, view it, or know whether the site calls it JSON-LD.

Capture the recipe

1. Open Import.
2. Select Website.
3. Enter the normal recipe-page URL.
4. Select Add website to inbox.
5. Review the extracted text before selecting Create draft.

The editable source-review step is intentionally before draft creation. Remove navigation, repeated advertising text, unrelated comments, or other obvious page material there. Once the draft exists, its retained original source is no longer editable.

Use the print view as a fallback

Some sites return a bot challenge, an unrelated placeholder recipe, a payment response, or no useful text to a server request even though the page works in your browser. Other sites do not provide usable structured recipe data and surround the recipe with too much unrelated material.

1. Open the page in your browser.
2. Use the site's Print recipe view when available.
3. Save the print view as a PDF and upload it to Viandly.
4. If PDF export is inconvenient, copy the visible recipe and use Paste Text.

Recommended website workflow

1. Try Website with the normal recipe-page URL.
2. If Viandly reports that the site blocked capture or the result is not useful, open the site's print view.
3. Save the print view as a PDF and use Documents, or copy its text into Paste Text.
4. Review the retained source and draft before saving the recipe.
