Use a recipe reference when another recipe belongs directly in your recipe text, such as a sauce, side dish, dough, or prepared component.

Add a reference in recipe text

While editing a recipe, type @ in its description, notes, or an instruction step. Continue typing the other recipe's title, then choose it from the matching list. Viandly keeps the sentence as ordinary readable text and adds a stable link to the selected recipe.

You can also place the cursor where the reference belongs and select the @ reference button. This is often easier on a phone or tablet. Viandly searches only your active recipes and excludes the recipe you are currently editing.

The @ character remains visible while editing so references are easy to recognize. Recipe views, Cook Mode, printouts, and cookbook editions omit the trigger and emphasize the referenced recipe name.

Examples include:

• Serve with @Tomato Soup.
• Prepare @Pizza Sauce before assembling the pizza.
• This version is milder than @Green Chile Salsa.

Each reference in the field also appears as a chip below the editor. Removing a chip keeps the sentence but turns the recipe name back into ordinary text. If you rewrite text through part of a reference, Viandly removes the link rather than leaving a hidden link attached to the wrong words.

Reference a recipe as an ingredient

For an ingredient that is itself another prepared recipe, expand that ingredient's details and select Use another recipe. This keeps the ingredient readable while giving Viandly an explicit component reference. The normal amount, unit, preparation, and notes remain available.

Follow a reference

In the recipe view, the referenced name appears as emphasized linked text without the editing @. Point to it with a mouse, focus it with a keyboard, or select it on a touch screen to see a brief preview. Use Open recipe in the preview to navigate to the referenced recipe.

References remain readable in Cook Mode, printouts, shared recipes, and cookbook editions. Printed and typeset versions show the authored recipe name without internal link information.

Find referenced recipes

The recipe detail page collects readable embedded references in the Referenced recipes panel. Each referenced recipe appears once even when it is mentioned more than once. The panel is a read-only index of references already present in the recipe; add or remove references by editing the recipe text or ingredient row.

When the other recipe changes

Renaming another recipe does not break an existing reference. Viandly retains the wording you originally wrote while continuing to open the referenced recipe.

If the other recipe is deleted or is not available to the current reader, the original wording remains as ordinary text. Viandly does not expose a private recipe through a preview, link, or the Referenced recipes panel.
